Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry could miss the start of the new Premier League season after struggling to recover from the abdomen injury that forced him out of England’s Euro 2012 squad, the
Barry has been sent by his club to a specialist in Germany after concerns the problem was not healing quick enough. Barry suffered the injury in a May friendly against Norway and is still troubled by the muscle tear, with the Mail suggesting that Dr Ulrike Muschaweck is likely to conclude surgery is the best option. If that is the case Barry will miss at least two weeks of training from the date of the operation, threatening to spill over into the start of City’s defence of their title.
Last season Barry was a regular feature in Roberto Mancini’s victorious side, as the midfielder made 44 appearances for City, scoring once against Bolton Wanderers in August.
