Man Utd captain Vidic nears return

Sir Alex Ferguson’s pre-season preparations have been boosted by the news that his captain, Nemanja Vidic, is expected to return to action during Manchester United’s summer tour of Scandinavia, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Vidic has been missing since suffering a knee ligament injury during a December Champions League game with Basel. The 30-year-old underwent extensive recovery and rehabilitation and is now able to put a date on his first match back. Vidic will miss United’s tours of South Africa and China but the early August trip to Norway, where United play Valerenga on the 5th, and Sweden, where United meet Barcelona in Gothenburg on the 8th, are likely to come in time for the Serbian.

Without Vidic United were beaten to the Premier League title by the smallest of margins, losing out to neighbours Manchester City by virtue of an eight-goal swing in the direction of Roberto Mancini’s side.
