Mancini plays down City Van Persie link

Roberto Mancini has spoken out about transfers at Manchester City this summer and has moved to calm talk surrounding any deal linked to the Premier League champions.

Reported in the Mirror , Mancini has refuted speculation about Robin Van Persie, Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and others, claiming that with preseason just days away there will be no major changes.

The Italian boss had this to say about the speculation surrounding his club: “Van Persie? He is an Arsenal player and I don’t want to disrespect Wenger. We have four strikers and we will start the preseason in five days, it’s unlikely there will be major changes in such a short time.”

This comment on Wenger and Van Persie could be the sign of a new Mancini who keeps his cards close to his chest. But just a few weeks ago the City boss did publicly admit his interest in the Dutch forward and outlined his intentions to move for the striker. Mancini continued:

“The same goes for Dzeko, his farewell is not expected. The interest of Juventus for him? It will be difficult that Edin goes away.” Adding: “Kolarov? I myself wanted to City, he is a great player. If it depends on me, he would remain at the City. I’d love to have him again in the next season but I cannot impose yself on his will.” Finishing off by saying: “Tevez will remain, unless he wants to change team.”

The correlation between what has been said and what happens is yet to be seen. Managers across Europe are prone to distancing themselves from transfers in the public eye but Mancini seems to be fairly adamant about not making any drastic changes to his squad after winning the league last season.
