Real Madrid turn down Liverpool approach for midfielder

Liverpool are thought to have had a bid for Esteban Granero rejected by Real Madrid.

According to the Daily Mail, the Spanish champions have turned away an offer by the Premier League club – but as yet there is no word on what the offered fee was.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been the subject of much speculation over the last few years with Arsenal also reportedly interested in bringing him to England’s top flight. But no transfer has managed to materialize just yet.

Granero came up through the Real Madrid youth system but in 2008, after failing to do enough to get out of the B team, he left for Getafe where he had already spent the previous season on loan. He went on to play 35 league games and scored 5 times for the La Liga side before Madrid exercised their buy back clause the following year.

Since arriving back at the Bernabeu in 2009, the midfielder has played just shy of 100 games for the club and has contributed 5 goals.
