Sterling confident of good relationship with Liverpool boss Rodgers

Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling is confident he can develop a good relationship with new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool Echo has reported, after it was revealed Rodgers tried to sign Sterling on loan for Swansea City last season.

Rodgers made his move for Sterling in January, three months before the winger was given his first team debut by then-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, the man Rodgers replaced earlier this summer. The temporary transfer never happened, however, with Sterling having to wait until March to make his first senior appearance for the Anfield outfit.

Sterling first came to prominence in February 2011 when he netted five goals in a 9-0 FA Youth Cup victory over Southend, a performance that saw the youngster including in the squad for an away Europa League match with Sparta Prague. But Sterling’s Liverpool bow did not occur until a year later in a substitute appearance against Wigan Athletic, with a handful more appearances before the end of the season including against Rodgers’ own Swansea.
