Tottenham draw with LA Galaxy marred by injury worries

Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with MLS side LA Galaxy in a pre-season friendly but perhaps of greater concern to Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas will have been the sight of both Rafael van der Vaart and Kyle Walker leaving the match early due to injury, according to Yahoo Sports.

Gareth Bale – making his own return from injury – opened the scoring only for David Lopes to equalise for the Americans, but van der Vaart’s match ended before half-time as he was substituted due to what appeared to be a groin injury. In the second-half, meanwhile, Walker had to be replaced shortly into his comeback from injury. The full-back was ruled out of the England squad for Euro 2012 with a toe problem.

New Tottenham signings Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Icelandic midfielder bought from Hoffenheim, and Belgian centre-back Jan Vertonghen, brought in from Dutch club Ajax, both featured. Yahoo claim they had contrasting evenings – Sigurdsson, playing as part of a forward three with Bale and van der Vaart, created Bale’s goal with a cross converted via the head of the Welshman.

Vertonghen, however, was partnered in defence by Younes Kaboul but Galaxy were somewhat rampant going forward, creating a number of chances that went unconverted.
