Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a permanent basis are under threat from Lokomotiv Moscow, the
Adebayor spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane, scoring 18 goals in 38 games, and new Spurs Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas had looked set to make the former Arsenal forward his third signing of the summer, after the capture of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen.
However, Adebayor is attracting admiring glances from Lokomotiv Moscow, who could be ready to scupper Spurs’ deal for the 28-year-old with an £8m bid of their own. Tottenham had agreed a fee with City for the player but talks over a contract are still on-going, as Spurs must find a way to meet Adebayor’s financial demands even if they cannot match his £175,000 per week wages.
Lokomotiv, managed by former Croatia Coach Slaven Bilic, are said to be willing and able to pay Adebayor the same sum he currently receives from City, potentially giving them the edge in the battle for the Togolese’s signature.
