Tottenham near Adebayor deal

Tottenham could see the return of Emmanuel Adebayor next season, this time on a permanent deal.

According to Goal, the North London side have offered Manchester City £5 million for the former Togo international in a hope to bring the striker back to White Hart Lane with a structured deal.

The reported fee is half of the asking price the Premier League champions have set for Adebayor but the aim would be to offer the striker the other half – £5 million – as a signing-on-fee in an attempt to supplement his £170,000-a-week wages.

It is thought that Adebayor is keen to return to Spurs after a successful loan spell last season where he scored 17 goals in 33 league games helping the side to reach 4th, only to have their Champions League dreams wrecked by London rivals Chelsea.

City are keen to sell the striker they signed from Arsenal three years ago as they look to clear their excessive wage bill. He is one of a number of top stars reportedly earning more than their worth at the Etihad, meaning a deal to Tottenham could happen sooner rather than later.
