Tottenham turn attention to Inter stopper Julio Cesar

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be interested in bringing in Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who is reportedly surplus to requirements in Italy, reports Metro.

The 33-year-old Brazilian international has slipped down the pecking order at Inter Milan after they signed Udinese ‘keeper Samir Handanovic, however he has maintained his willingness to stay at the San Siro in order to fight for his place, even if his playing time will be considerably lower than the 40 appearances he made last season.

Reports in the Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Inter are keen to remove Cesar from the wage bill and could even hand him a free transfer despite his contract which has two years left to run, and this has reportedly interested Tottenham who have made signing a goalkeeper their top priority this summer after Brad Friedel recently turned 41.

It was believed that new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was interested in signing French international Hugo Lloris, though his value of £16million has led to suggestions Julio Cesar may be a more cost effective signing.

Cesar has plenty of experience in football; he is currently Brazil’s first-choice keeper and has a Champions League winner’s medal with Inter Milan after appearing for the Nerazzurri on 299 occasions.
