Earlier in the summer van Persie announced he would not be signing a new contract to stay at the club before his current deal expires next summer, citing concerns over the direction of the club as the reason for his refusal. Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus are the three leading parties competing for van Persie’s signature.
Van Persie will still meet with Wenger, however, with the Telegraph claiming there remains the chance, albeit a slim one, that the Netherlands international could sign fresh terms with Arsenal.
The Telegraph adds however that Wenger faces a dilemma over whether or not to include van Persie on the club’s trip to Kuala Lumpur. Wenger is reportedly keen that Arsenal’s pre-season preparations are not overshadowed by van Persie and the manager may welcome the chance to assess new signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, but if none of the interested trio makes an acceptable offer by the time Arsenal travel, van Persie would be expected to make the trip.
