Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants the dispute between club and captain settled, even if it means selling Robin van Persie before the start of the season, the
Van Persie has been the subject of extensive speculation after first hesitating over signing a new contract and then confirming his intention not to do so. The Netherlands international has a year remaining on his current deal and a number of rumoured potential suitors, with Wenger now said to want to move on from the issue and prepare for the new season with or without van Persie.
Wenger is scheduled to meet with van Persie later this week in an attempt to persuade him to stay at the club but if the talks fail and van Persie remains determined to move on, Wenger will give his blessing to the sale of the 28-year-old.
The manager would prefer to have the money received for van Persie and the time to spend it than a discontented player on his books, with both Manchester clubs and Serie A champions Juventus expected to be in the running for van Persie’s signature.
