Want-away Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov could be given an Old Trafford escape route by West Ham United, who have turned to the Bulgarian after seeing their interest in Liverpool’s Andy Carroll rejected, the
West Ham had hoped to take Carroll on a season-long loan after Reds boss Brendan Rodgers admitted the England international was not part of his plans, but Liverpool will now only consider a permanent deal for Carroll, pricing him out of the Hammers’ range.
Berbatov however has confirmed he wants to leave United in search of regular playing time, having dropped behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in Sir Alex Ferguson’s order of preference. West Ham are then lining up a loan offer for the 31-year-old, who it is thought could welcome a return to London after two years with Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite Berbatov being reduced to a bit-part player last season United took up an option to extend his contract for another year, preventing the forward leaving on a free transfer this summer.
