Agger exit to trigger Liverpool move for Williams

Daniel Agger’s proposed move to Manchester City could trigger Brendan Rodgers to open talks with Swansea defender Ashley Williams.

The Daily Mail are suggesting that the new Liverpool boss will look to his former club to replace the centre back should a deal with Agger and City go ahead.

Williams would be the second player from the South Wales club that Rodgers has made a move for since leaving the club last month, Joe Allen being the first to look likely to switch Wales for Liverpool.

However, there is an agreement in place that stops Rodgers signing any players from Swansea for one season as part of the terms that saw the Northern Irishman leave the club he brought to the Premier League for the red half of Merseyside.

The only way Liverpool can sign a player from the Swans is if another club makes a bid first, the situation that it is believed triggered the interest in Joe Allen.

There is yet to be an offer for Agger from the English champions but it is thought that one is imminent.
