Arsenal demand bigger transfer fee from Man Utd for van Persie

Arsenal will raise their asking price for Robin van Persie if the Netherlands international wants to join Manchester United, the Daily Mirror has reported. Manager Arsene Wenger is willing to accept £20m from other clubs, but that figure rises to £25m when it comes to the Gunners’ Premier League rivals.

Van Persie is thought to want to move to Old Trafford. Juventus, who had been amongst the favourites for his signature, have been told van Persie will not be moving to Italy but will be leaving Arsenal. With Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini claiming the champions are out of the running for the striker, United would appear to be van Persie’s only, and preferred, option.

The Mirror however adds that Wenger is still of the opinion he can persuade van Persie to stay at the club. The Arsenal captain now has less than a year remaining on his contract and earlier this summer rejected the offer of a new deal with the club.
