Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was willing to sell midfielder Alex Song to Barcelona after growing frustrated with the player’s attitude on and off-the-field, the
Song completed a £15m move to La Liga over the weekend but the Mirror claims the Gunners hierarchy was happy to see the back of the 24-year-old. The newspaper lists a series of complaints Wenger and his staff are said to have had over Song, including an inability to arrive on time for training, a question over the amount of effort he put in once he did arrive, issues with his relationship with the club’s coaches and poor defensive positioning on the pitch.
When Barcelona’s interest in Song became more concrete, the Mirror adds, Arsenal did little to stand in the player’s way. Song had begun making noises over a new contract at Arsenal but leapt at the chance to join Barcelona when it came about. Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin is the player Wenger has looked to in order to plug the gap left by Song’s depature.
