Arsenal turn to Belgium forward Mirallas

Arsenal will look to replace Robin van Persie with Belgium forward Kevin Mirallas if the captain leaves the club this summer, the Daily Mail has reported. The newspaper adds that part of the attraction of Olympiakos’ Mirallas is his low price.

Mirallas would be available for a little over £6m but the Gunners face stiff competition from inside and outside the Premier League. Liverpool are already thought to have scouted the 24-year-old while Russian outfit CSKA Moscow had an offer of around £5m turned down earlier this year.

The former Lille player is capable of featuring as a winger or a more orthodox striker, a position in which he has excelled in Greece. Last season Mirallas not only finished as the top scorer in the Greek top flight, but was also named as the Greek league’s player of the season.

Mirallas played more than 70 games for Lille between 2004 and 2008, scoring 10 goals, before switching to St. Etienne. He spent two years there, playing another 50 games and netting only a handful of times before a switch to Greece saw the goals flow regularly, with more than 30 coming in just over 50 appearances.
