Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to Cheick Tiote as he continues to bolster his squad before the end of the transfer window. According to the Daily
Tiote signed for the Magpies in 2010 and has been a permanent fixture in Alan Pardew’s side ever since – playing 51 Premier League games scoring just the once. He is considered a more traditional defensive midfielder and has been pivotal to the recent turnaround in fortunes at Newcastle.
Wenger is speculated to be lining up a £15 million deal for the Ivorian, which would mean spending the full fee that he received for Alex Song from Barcelona.
If the deal doesn’t go ahead – Arsenal are predicting problems in the form of Newcastle attempting to maintain their Champions League challenge from last year by keeping star players – the Gunners’ boss will return to Yann M’Vila who he was keen on signing earlier in the summer.
