Baines set for Everton stay says Rounds

Steve Round has reiterated the confidence that Everton has that Leighton Baines will not leave the club in this transfer window.

Reported by Sky Sports, the Assistant Manager at Goodison Park has claimed that he thinks there will be no outgoings in the coming days, after last year losing Mikel Arteta to Arsenal on deadline day. He said:

“There are only a few days to go and I don’t think anyone is leaving now that’s for sure. We have quite a strong 16 players. His [Baines] heart is here definitely, he is a local boy. He loves the club, loves his team-mates and loves to go out there and perform. He has never mooted anything else. Fortunately we have not had any bids. Leighton is here so long may it continue.”

There had been speculation mounting all summer that Manchester United were weighing up an offer for the English left back but that has failed to come to fruition as yet, with Sir Alex Ferguson opting to improve his striking options instead.

Baines has been liked with a move away from Everton in most transfer windows since signing for the club, but he continues to play for the Toffees currently with a total of 204 games under his belt in the 7 seasons he has spent at the club – an impressive 15 goals as well.

David Moyes and Steve Round have admitted that they are hoping to be busy in the coming days before Friday’s 11pm deadline.
