Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Alex Song from Arsenal for a fee in the region of £15 million.
Song becomes the second high profile name of the summer to leave the Emirates after Robin van Persie left late last week.
The 24-year-old signed for Arsenal in 2005 and, after one loan spell to Charlton the following season, he went on to play a total of 204 games as well as grabbing 10 goals despite being a holding midfielder.
Whilst this move has raised concerns for some about the Gunners’ willingness to sell top players – or inability to keep them – Arsene Wenger sees no cause for concern, he said:
“He [Song] expressed his desire to go to Barcelona. We have Abou Diaby coming back, Jack Wilshire coming back in one to one-and-a-half-months, and Tomas Rosicky is not far away. We might bring another midfielder in as well.”
Arsenal have already signed Santi Corzola during the transfer window and are speculated to be attempting a loan deal for Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, though they face stiff competition from Liverpool and Tottenham for his signature.
