Barton desperate to leave QPR for Marseille

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has admitted he is desperate to leave the Premier League club for French side Marseille, having complained about his treatment at Loftus Road, according to the BBC.

Barton is banned for 10 games following his sending off on the final day of last season against Manchester City – the original suspension was increased after Barton was involved in confrontations with a number of City players. The punishment handed down was 12 games, but QPR have now played twice this season.

The one-time England midfielder looked set to join Fleetwood Town on loan and trained with the League Two club but the move collapsed, with QPR now in talks with Ligue 1 side Marseille over a deal that would see Barton move to France and Stephane Mbia head in the opposite direction.

Barton has revealed on Twitter that he hopes the two clubs come to an agreement soon, claiming his heart was already in Marseille and putting forth his unrest with events at the R’s. Barton is unhappy his squad number was removed at short notice and that the club’s current owners claimed they would not have signed him in the first place if they were in charge when Barton moved from Newcastle a year ago.
