Chelsea will turn to Juventus’ Stephan Lichtsteiner as Roberto Di Matteo attempts to bring in a new right-back before the start of the Premier League season, the
Having allowed Jose Bosingwa to leave the club this summer after the Portuguese’s contract expired Di Matteo is in need of cover on the right side of his defence. The only options currently available are Branislav Ivanovic, who would prefer to play as a centre-back, and Paulo Ferreira.
Chelsea originally targeted Marseille’s Spanish youth international Cesar Azpilicueta as their No. 1 choice to fill the problem position. That has caused Di Matteo to look elsewhere, with Lichtsteiner now the object of his attention.
Lichtsteiner was part of the Juventus side that finished victorious in Serie A last season and previously spent three years at Lazio. A Switzerland international, Lichtsteiner could be available for around £5m.
