The Mirror adds that Zenit’s bid is worth around £40m and they are willing to offer Porto a player as part of the deal too. Portugal international defender Bruno Alves is the man on offer, while the bid is financed by Zenit’s owners, energy firm Gazprom, who recently signed on as sponsors of Chelsea.
Chelsea were said to have pulled out of negotiations for the transfer of Hulk in an effort to force Porto to lower their demands. The thinking was that by withdrawing their interest Hulk would grow unsettled and encourage Porto into a more flexible stance. Zenit’s offer has however foiled that scheme.
Hulk’s agent, Givanildo Vieira de Souza, is quoted as suggesting Hulk does want to leave Portugal, but that he does not have his heart set on the Premier League.
