Chelsea have attempted an eleventh hour bid for Luka Modric, but it would seem, to no avail.
According to the Mirror,
The Blues have been in the hunt for the 26-year-old since last summer but this fresh attempt to sign him appears to be in vain with the player himself opting for a move to Spain and is expected to fly to Real Madrid this week for a medical.
Modric has played 127 Premier League games since arriving at White Hart Lane in 2008, contributing 13 goals. Last year it looked certain that he would be on his way to Stamford Bridge but Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy managed to persuade him to stay on for another year.
This time around the European Champions were a bit slow off the mark in terms of bidding for Modric and their former boss Jose Mourinho – who has pursued the playmaker all summer – looks set to seal a deal before the end of August.
