Chelsea owner Roma Abramovich is intent on adding to manager Roberto Di Matteo’s squad further still with the purchase of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany forward Andre Schurrle, the
Schurrle, 21, is in-keeping with the youthful nature of the summer recruits from the Champions League winners. So far Chelsea have bought Eden Hazard, 21, his 19-year-old brother Thorgan, Marko Marin, 23, and Oscar, who is 21.
Chelsea have also had a series of offers rejected for Wigan Athletic’s 21-year-old forward Victor Moses and are understood to be keen on Marseille’s 22-year-old full-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
Schurrle has already been the subject of one bid from the Premier League side, a £16m approach that was rebuffed by Leverkusen. Chelsea are however expected to return with an offer in the region of £20m, although Leverkusen’s sporting director, Rudi Voller, has insisted the player is not for sale. Schurrle’s contract runs until 2016.
