Drogba aiming for brief Chelsea return

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba paid a visit to his old teammates this week but the Daily Mail reports that the Ivory Coast international could be set for a longer return later in the year, although the 34-year-old would be unable to play for the club.

Drogba, now with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, was pictured with the likes of John Terry and Fernando Torres on a visit to the Chelsea training ground, is expected to return to England to train with a Premier League club ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2013.

The Chinese league season ends in November and does not resume again until spring – around late February or early March. If Ivory Coast qualify for the tournament Drogba would need to spend the off-season keeping his fitness up. With his long spell as a Chelsea player behind him, it would seem a natural fit for Drogba to train with Chelsea. However, the transfer window would not be open until January and as the tournament begins on January 19, there would be little time for Drogba to play a competitive game.
