Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has welcomed the signing of former Arsenal captain Robin van Persie, describing the potential strike force available to Sir Alex Ferguson as “mouth-watering”,
Van Persie completed his move from the Emirates Stadium to Old Trafford on Friday, in time to be available to make his debut against Everton on Monday evening in United’s first Premier League game of the new season. But such are the riches available to Ferguson van Persie is not guaranteed to start at Goodison Park.
Giggs feels that whoever Ferguson selects to line up for United will cause opposing defences all manner of problems. He said: “No matter what partnership the manager goes with up front, it looks ¬mouth-watering. Whoever the manager puts out there will do well, I’m sure. It’s the manager’s job to juggle all the players and pick the right systems for the right games.”
Van Persie has joined a squad that already boasted England centre-forwards Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck, Mexico international Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov, a former Bulgaria captain. Between them, however, van Persie and Rooney netted 71 goals in all competitions last season – 57 of which came in the Premier League.
