Liverpool close to Assaidi transfer

Liverpool are close to signing Heerenveen’s Morocco international winger Oussama Assaidi, the BBC has reported. The player will be Brendan Rodgers’ third signing since he was appointed earlier this summer.

Assaidi, 24, has made 68 appearances for Heerenveen, scoring 20 goals. He also has 22 caps for Morocco and previously played for De Graafschap and Omniworld, moving to his current club in 2009.

If the transfer goes through Assaidi will join former Roma forward Fabio Borini and ex-Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen as new recruits ahead of Rodgers’ first season in charge at Anfield. Liverpool have not revealed how much they are to pay for Assaidi, the BBC adds.

The BBC also notes that Assaidi first came to prominence as a result of a spectacular performance in Heerenveen’s 6-2 victory over FC Twente in December 2010. Not content with scoring a hat-trick, Assaidi also claimed assists for the other three goals.
