Manchester United did have an agreement to sign Brazil midfielder Lucas Moura, the player’s agent has claimed, before Paris Saint-Germain made a late move and swooped the youngster away from Old Trafford, ESPN
Rather than head to the Premier League and Sir Alex Ferguson Moura is to join up with Carlo Ancelotti in Ligue 1 in January. PSG will pay Sao Paulo €45m for the 19-year-old, a figure that led to Ferguson claiming the game has gone mad if a club is willing to pay so much for someone so young.
Moura’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, confirmed it was the intervention of PSG director Leonardo who diverted Moura way from Man Utd. Ribeiro said: “Everything was agreed between Sao Paulo and Manchester United…but then Leonardo called me and asked to talk to Lucas.”
Ribeiro added that the shared bond between the compatriots Moura and Leonardo helped sway the player, as did the prospect of living in Paris. But Ribeiro insisted it was the “project” underway in the French capital that truly decided Moura’s mind.
