Manchester United could be without Wayne Rooney for as much as two months as the England striker recovers from the gash to his leg suffered during the weekend’s win over Fulham, the
Rooney suffered the cut when attempting to block Hugo Rodallega’s shot late in the match on Saturday. The Fulham forward’s momentum caused him to land on Rooney’s leg and opened up a gash that the newspaper claims is six inches long and cut as deep as Rooney’s thigh bone. The wound required surgery to close and could take until the autumn to heal fully, such was the damage done.
The Telegraph adds that there is also the possibility of damage to the muscle, considering the extent of the injury, but that will only be known at a later date. As it stands, Rooney will miss a significant portion of the early season for his club as well as the opening rounds of the Champions League and two World Cup qualifiers for England, against Moldova and Ukraine in September.
