Arsenal captain Robin van Persie will become a Manchester United player pending the successful completion of a medical and the agreement of personal terms after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £24m, the BBC
Van Persie announced earlier this summer that he would not be signing a new contract with the Gunners before his current deal expired in 2013. That sparked a transfer scramble between three main interested parties – Manchester City and Juventus joining United in the hunt for the signature of the Netherlands striker. It now appears Sir Alex Ferguson will get his man.
The BBC claims United will pay Arsenal a sum of £22.5m up front with a further £1.5m if the Manchester club win either the Champions League or the Premier League within the next four years. United were eliminated from the group stages of last season’s Champions League and lost out to Man City in the Premier League, falling short by the slim margin of an eight-goal swing in goal difference.
