Milan move for Man City midfielder de Jong

Milan are expected to make a last minute attempt to sign Nigel de Jong in the coming 48 hours, with Manchester City feeling the Dutch International is surplus to requirements. According to the Daily Mirror, the current Premier League champions are looking for £10m for the holding midfielder, but reports suggest the Serie A side are thinking of a bid more in the region of £8m.

De Jong has found his place in the City line up under threat with the arrival of Jack Rodwell from Everton a few weeks ago. With Gareth Barry expected to be fit soon the 27-year-old is expected to find himself even further down the pecking order.

Singing for the Citizens in January 2009, the Dutchman has made 96 league appearances for the club. In his first three seasons at the Etihad Stadium he was a key member of the first XI but last season – the club’s first ever Premier League winning season – he was only to feature 14 times.

If de Jong is to move away from the club then the deal must be completed by 11pm on Friday.
