Rodgers must sell before he can bring Chelsea striker Sturridge to Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, but the Reds boss must offload a number of squad players before he can afford the England international, the Daily Mirror has reported. The likes of Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing have been touted as potential departures.

The Mirror puts the price for Sturridge at £15m, with the newspaper also claiming that Sturridge is unhappy at Chelsea as he continues to be played on the wing rather than through the middle as a central striker. Sturridge is also said to be restless after failing to secure a regular first team place in his time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea would not necessarily be receptive to a bid from Anfield, however, as they are short on options at centre-forward. Following the exits of Romelu Lukaku and Didier Drogba Fernando Torres and Sturridge are the only strikers available to Roberto Di Matteo, but if Chelsea sign another forward before the close of the window they may be willing to listen to offers for Sturridge.
