Southampton host Wigan Athletic on Saturday as both sides look to gain their first points of the season, following opening day defeats.
The south-coast side feel valiantly in a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City last weekend, at one point leading the Premier League champions by 2-1, before a late City comeback ensure the points went to Mancini’s men.
Wigan meanwhile come to the St. Mary’s stadium on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea, two goals in the first seven minutes ending Roberto Martinez’s gameplan.
His task in the future will no doubt be complicated more by the sale on Friday of winger Victor Moses agreeing a £9m move to Chelsea. Even if the deal is not completed by Saturday, the player is unlikely to feature. Another winger Jean Beausejour may make a return to the first-team following his absence on the opening day, likely facing a fitness test pre-game. Also likely to be assessed at the last moment are James McArthur and Shaun Maloney, who are both carrying knocks.
Southampton hope to welcome back Jack Cork, who spent part of his Summer on Great Britain Olympics duty, and missed last week with an ankle injury. After Rickie Lambert’s heroics last week, he is likely to force a starting place up-front for the Saints.
