Sunderland host Reading in a tie that sees two sides chasing their first victory of the season.
Sunderland gained an impressive point away to Arsenal last weekend, and have added to their squad in the last week. Steven Fletcher makes a £12m move from Wolves, and on Friday a deal was agreed to take Adam Johnson from Manchester City to the Stadium of Light, in a £10m deal.
Fletcher is likely to start the game on the bench, having not regained full fitness following an ankle injury, while Johnson is unlikely to have completed his move and the following paperwork in-time to feature.
Other new summer signings Louis Saha and Carlos Cuellar are set for debuts however Phil Bardsley (ankle), James Vaughan (hernia), and Wes Brown (ankle), will all likely miss out.
Reading are playing their third game in a week, following a 1-1 draw with Stoke, and a 4-2 defeat away to Chelsea. After impressing in that midweek tie at Stamford Bridge, manager Brian McDermott is unlikely to make any changes to his starting line-up, but Jason Roberts will return from suspension, most likely to take a place with the substitutes.
