Swansea boss Laudrup refuses to be drawn link to Newcastle’s Obertan

Michael Laudrup has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Swansea City with a move for Gabriel Obertan. Reported by ESPN, the new Swans boss has explicitly said he wishes to avoid the topic of transfers until something solid is in place.

When asked about the Newcastle winger, the former Denmark captain said: “Speculation about players coming in, I don’t want to comment on that. It is better for me to say I don’t comment on rumours. I can comment on things about our players as it is different. When something is near or is done you can ask me all you want.

The idea of Obertan switching the North East for South Wales has derived from the very real possibility of Swansea losing Joe Allen to Liverpool, leaving Laudrup in need of some new midfield talent.

Obertan only signed for Newcastle a year ago from Manchester United but has failed to hold down a regular first team place – a problem he has had constantly since arriving in the Premier League. In his first season at St James’ Park the 23-year-old managed just 18 starts and 1 goal.

Swansea are reportedly also awaiting an offer from Manchester City for Scott Sinclair.
