Fernando Torres has come a long way since May 19th, when having won just won the Champions League with Chelsea, Torres spoke of just how unhappy he was at the club following a season that saw him play mostly second fiddle to Didier Drogba, particularly in the big games.
However, the the
El Nino has started every game for the Blues this season, having taken the Golden Boot at Euro 2012 and with three goals already is well on course to better last season’s tally of 11 in 32 league appearances, 12 of which from the substitutes’ bench. Torres hinted at the difference Drogba’s departure to China had made, saying: “When you feel the confidence of everyone and you’re in the line-up, the confidence is easier to have back. You know you’re going to play, or think you are, and that gives you more time to play your football. I’d never been on the bench for eight games in a row as I was last season.” Torres spoke in Monaco ahead of Friday’s European Super Cup clash with Europa League winners Atletico Madrid, where he will come up against a reported Chelsea target in Radamel Falcao, scorer of 36 goals for Atletico last season.
