Tottenham boss Villas-Boas to choose between Adebayor and Damiao

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas will only sign one striker before the close of the transfer window, with the choice coming down to either Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor or Internacional’s Leandro Damiao, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The Mirror adds that Tottenham would still prefer Adebayor to be their new striker and are still talking with City over his permanent signing. The former Arsenal forward spent last year on loan at White Hart Lane, scoring 18 goals in 37 games.

Villas-Boas is keen to bring in competition for Jermain Defoe, who is currently the only senior striker on the club’s books. After Defoe the next centre-forward in line is 19-year-old Harry Kane, who Villas-Boas intends to use as the club’s third-choice.

The Portuguese is said by the Mirror to only want one new striker despite the dearth of options as he intends to play a 4-2-3-1 formation, using one central striker supported by three attacking midfielders.
