Tottenham linked with Arsenal misfit Chamakh

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas could be set to take his search for a striker to near neighbours Arsenal, as the Daily Mirror reports that Gunners outcast Marouane Chamakh is next on Villas-Boas’ wanted list.

The newspaper adds that Villas-Boas’ Arsenal counterpart, Arsene Wenger, is likely to welcome the chance to offload a player who has failed to impress in his time at the Emirates Stadium. Chamakh was not in Arsenal’s 18-man squad for the opening day draw with Sunderland and the Mirror claims it was because Spurs and Arsenal are already in talks over the player.

Chamakh has had to watch as Wenger signed two new strikers over the summer even before Robin van Persie moved to Arsenal. Germany international Lukas Podolski arrived early in pre-season while France international Olivier Giroud also signed in.

Everton, Serie A side Fiorentina and more than one La Liga outfit have also at times enquired about Chamakh but it is Spurs who are now pursuing the Morocco international after a move for Emmanuel Adebayor – an ex-Arsenal striker himself – stalled.
