Van Persie could start Premier League season at Arsenal

The Daily Mirror has reported that Arsenal captain Robin van Persie could start the Premier League season still a Gunners player. The Netherlands international has been linked with a move away from the club, with Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United all in the mix, but time is running out for van Persie to make his move.

Juventus are said to have given van Persie a deadline of August 7 to come to a decision over his future. The Serie A champions are understood to have grown tired of waiting for van Persie to make up his mind and have warned the Dutchman’s camp that if they do not receive a positive response by Tuesday they will look elsewhere.

Meanwhile, van Persie is thought to favour a move to United rather than City, but that is complicated further by Sir Alex Ferguson’s unwillingness to sanction a move costing more than £15m for a player who will turn 29 next week. Van Persie’s past history of injuries is also a factor in the manager’s reticence.
