Van Persie targets Premier League success with Man United

Robin van Persie wants to win the Premier League title with Manchester United, claiming he will wear the No. 20 shirt at Old Trafford because he wants to help his new club to their 20th league success, the Daily Mirror has reported. Van Persie completed his move from Arsenal on Friday.

The Netherlands international has cost United £24m and van Persie leaves the Gunners after eight years, 281 appearances and 132 goals. Van Persie earlier this summer turned down a new contract with Arsenal and, as he entered the final year of his existing deal, clubs interested in capitalising on the uncertainty emerged with United eventually winning the race for his signature. Van Persie is eligible to play against Everton on Monday evening in United’s first Premier League game of the season.

Van Persie latterly wore the No. 10 shirt at the Emirates Stadium but that number is already taken at United by Wayne Rooney. But van Persie revealed he sees extra significance in his new number. He said: “I took the No.20 shirt because I’m here to win a 20th title with United.
