Patrick Vieira believes Manchester City can get out of a Champions League group containing La Liga champions Real Madrid, Ajax, the champions of Holland, and Borussia Dortmund, who have won the Bundesliga two years in a row, the
Vieira, who ended his playing days at City and is now the club’s director of football development, admitted that City had been drawn in the toughest group of the competition but that the players will be excited at the prospect of testing themselves against the likes of Real Madrid. When the two teams meet it will mark the first ever match between the sides.
The former Arsenal midfielder added however that City have no reason to fear Madrid or any of their opponents in the group stage after their experience last season. Vieira believes that City now know what the Champions League demands of them and can put right the wrongs of the last campaign.
Vieira said: “We can be confident of getting to the next stage. Last season was the first time the club has been in the Champions League so we need to learn, to improve.”
