However, Agbonhalor says he is now fully fit and determined to force his way into Lambert’s plans. He said: “It’s always frustrating being injured at whatever point of the season and not being able to help the lads. But it was more frustrating for me because it was the beginning of the season. I think every season that I’ve been playing I’ve always been available for the first game so it was a bit of a shock to be out. But I’m fit and ready now and really raring to go.”
Speed-merchant Agbonhalor came through the ranks at Villa Park and in 2010, under Martin O’Neill, enjoyed his best form, hitting 16 goals in all competitions and saw him knocking on the door of England’s World Cup squad. However, recent seasons have seen his form and international career tail off somewhat.
