Agbonlahor raring to go for Aston Villa

Gabriel Agbonlahor is unfazed by Aston Villa’s deadline day forward signings of the Belgian Christian Benteke, who has been prolific in his native league, and Chesterfield’s Jordan Bowery, reports the Daily Mirror. The England international has struggled with injury in recent years and has only featured from the bench so far this season for new Villa manager Paul Lambert.

However, Agbonhalor says he is now fully fit and determined to force his way into Lambert’s plans. He said: “It’s always frustrating being injured at whatever point of the season and not being able to help the lads. But it was more frustrating for me because it was the beginning of the season. I think every season that I’ve been playing I’ve always been available for the first game so it was a bit of a shock to be out. But I’m fit and ready now and really raring to go.

Speed-merchant Agbonhalor came through the ranks at Villa Park and in 2010, under Martin O’Neill, enjoyed his best form, hitting 16 goals in all competitions and saw him knocking on the door of England’s World Cup squad. However, recent seasons have seen his form and international career tail off somewhat.

Villa have had a difficult start to the season under ex-Norwich manager Lambert, taking only one point from their opening three games and face form side Swansea at Villa Park in their first game after the international break.
