Agger could be fit in time for Liverpool’s trip to Norwich

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is optimistic that centre-back Daniel Agger will be fit to take his place in the starting line-up for Liverpool’s trip to Norwich at the weekend as the Reds search for their first Premier League victory of the season.

Denmark international Agger, 27, was stretched off in last week’s defeat to Manchester United after clashing with teammate Glen Johnson in the build-up to the award of a penalty against the home side that Robin van Persie converted to give the three points to the Red Devils.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, despite fears that Agger had suffered a long-term cruciate ligament injury, the scan revealed only minor bruising and Rodgers says he could be fit to make the match at Carrow Road.

“Daniel probably has a good chance of being involved and Fabio [Borini] is 50/50,” said Rodgers. “They haven’t trained this week but we’ll see how they go over the next 24 hours. They are responding well.”

The presence of Agger at the back would be a huge boost to Liverpool, who currently lie in lowly 18th place without a league win under the new management of Northern Irishman Rodgers.
