Arsene Wenger has not yet decided if he will give Olivier Giroud the chance to play for Arsenal against his former club Montpellier, the BBC
Giroud joined the Gunners from Montpellier over the summer, moving to the Premier League after helping Montpellier to a shock Ligue 1 title win. Giroud scored 25 goals last season as Montpellier saw off the likes of defending champions Lille and big-spending Paris Saint-Germain, who are bankrolled by oil money.
But Giroud has struggled somewhat in his early appearances in England, failing to score in his first three appearances and being dropped to the bench for the match with Southampton on Saturday. With Gervinho starting as the central forward in the Gunners’ front three, Arsenal were rampant, scoring four goals before half-time and adding two more before the final whistle.
Wenger said after the match that he left out Giroud in an effort to reduce the attention on him, adding that he is not sure what his team will be for the Champions League opener. Giroud, meanwhile, dismissed any notion of sentimentality at playing against his former club, insisting he is solely focused on playing and scoring for Arsenal.
