Gareth Barry faces a spell on the sidelines even after recovering from injury as Manchester City have signed two new midfielders during the time the England international has been unavailable after a double hernia operation and muscle tear, the
Barry has not played a senior game since England’s pre-Euro 2012 friendly with Norway, missing the competition because of a groin injury, and then having to undergo surgery to fix a double hernia that developed.
In that time the transfer window has opened and shut and City have bolstered their midfield, spending more than £30m, the Mirror claims, on two midfielders who share Barry’s position – Everton’s England international Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia, bought from Benfica and a Spain international.
Nigel de Jong has moved on, joining Serie A side Milan, but with Yaya Toure still at the club and places in midfield at a premium, Barry, formerly a regular starter under Roberto Mancini, is no longer guaranteed a place in the side.
Barry moved to City in 2009, playing more than 100 games for the Premier League champions and scoring six goals.
