Barry to return for Man City against Arsenal

Gareth Barry is said to be penciling in Manchester City’s contest with Arsenal on September 23rd at the Etihad Stadium for his return from the injury and operation that ruled him out of Euro 2012 and his club’s entire pre-season program

The 32-year old Barry has been on the comeback trail for two weeks now, undergoing full first team training and taking part in matches for City’s second string and the Daily Mail reports Barry will make his full return against Arsene Wenger’s side. “I’ve had two outings with the Elite Development Squad now and I felt a lot better in the second game so things are progressing nicely,’ said Barry. “I had a double hernia operation which meant an initial four weeks out but then I tore a muscle in rehab which set me back a little, but I don’t think I’m too far off now – touch wood! I’m just taking things one day at a time but I’m feeling quite strong again which is really good.

Barry has been a favourite of manager Roberto Mancini since he made his move to Manchester from Aston Villa in 2009 and made 44 appearances in all competitions for City last season, scoring a single goal as they dramatically clinched the Premier League title. His return would provide a welcome boost for Mancini, who sees his side not only take on Arsenal but begin their tough Champions League group containing the Champions of Spain, Germany and Holland in Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.
