Branislav Ivanovic believes Arsenal will provide a stern test of Chelsea’s Premier League title credentials when the two sides meet on Saturday, the
Chelsea are currently top of the table and unbeaten in the league this season, a point clear of second-place Manchester United following their victory at Stamford Bridge over Stoke City this weekend. Former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole scored the only goal of the game.
Ivanovic, who praised Cole for his performance in the win over the Potters, claimed that Chelsea’s next match is the most important of the season so far, and that he is targeting a win to establish Chelsea as genuine title contenders this season.
He said: “We have the next game as a very great challenge for us – Arsenal away. This is the first actual big game for us this season.
“Our performances and quality – we know how it is. But we have to show everyone, and we have to show it every game.”
Chelsea have been in solid goal scoring form this season, racking up nine in their opening five games with Ivanovic chipping in with a couple himself. But Roberto Di Matteo’s side have been much more prolific at home than on their travels, scoring seven times in three games at the Bridge and only twice in as many matches away from their part of London.
