Di Matteo denies concern over Chelsea striker Torres

Roberto Di Matteo has rejected suggestions that the reaction of Fernando Torres to being substituted during Chelsea’s goalless Premier League draw with Queens Park Rangers is anything to be concerned about, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Di Matteo added that he does not feel Torres is slipping into old, bad habits after two games without scoring, after the former Liverpool striker revealed earlier this season that he had banished the doubts at Stamford Bridge after making a strong start to the campaign.

The Mirror claims that ordinarily two goalless games would not be much of a concern but Torres’ reaction to being substituted – when he went straight down the tunnel at Loftus Road rather than take his place on the bench with his teammates – hints at a deeper problem, and the possible return of the unhappy Torres seen for most of his Chelsea career.

Di Matteo however dismissed the notion that Torres had reverted to the forlorn figure of past months. He said: “No, no, absolutely not. We can’t put too much pressure on one player. We are a team and everybody has responsibility. We’re looking for other players to score goals as well.
