Liverpool were reportedly mulling over a potential move to bring Fernando Torres back to Merseyside this summer, following the Spain international’s season of struggle at Chelsea.
According to the
Torres was sold by Liverpool to Chelsea in January 2011 for a British record transfer fee of £50m, while the Reds replaced their departing striker with Andy Carroll. Torres endured a difficult campaign at Stamford Bridge last season, despite the club’s FA Cup and Champions League victories, scoring only 11 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
Torres would find eventually find some form for both his club and his country, where he finished as the Golden Boot winner at Euro 2012, while Comolli would be sacked by the Liverpool owners last April.
So far this season, Torres has scored three goals in five appearances as Chelsea’s first choice striker following the departure of Didier Drogba.
