Vito Mannone has warned his fellow Arsenal goalkeepers that now he has had a taste of being the club’s first-choice custodian, he is not going to give the position up without a fight. The
Mannone, 24, has replaced Szczesny for the previous two Premier League games as the Poland international is carrying a slight rib injury. But Mannone has kept two clean sheets in as many games – against Stoke City and Liverpool – and has looked assured in doing so, the newspaper adds. The Mail continues that Mannone has come a long way from his last Arsenal appearance, against Olympiakos in the Champions League when he committed a series of blunders.
And Mannone has admitted he is intent on keeping Szczesny out of the side even after his injury has healed, crediting a loan spell with Championship side Hull City for restoring his confidence.
Mannone said: “I know Arsenal, everybody here and I am really happy when I am involved, like now. I would like to be involved more and more and establish myself.”
